The environment means the air, water, soil, animals, plants, and people around us. All these things together make up our environment. For a healthy life, the environment must be clean and fresh. But when air, water, and soil become dirty and harmful, it is called environmental pollution. Today, our environment is badly polluted in many places. And sadly, we are mostly responsible for this problem. Clean air is very important for our life, but factories and vehicles produce dirty smoke and gases that pollute the air. Water gets polluted when factories throw waste into rivers, or when people use chemical fertilizers and insecticides in farming. Sound pollution results from loudspeakers, microphones, and strong horns.. Soil is also damaged by harmful chemicals used in agriculture. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen, therefore benefiting the surroundings. If we cut down trees, the environment becomes unbalanced. Environmental pollution is dangerous for our health and can cause climate change and natural disasters. A better existence depends on our surroundings being secure and clean.

বঙ্গানুবাদ:

পরিবেশ বলতে বোঝায় বাতাস, পানি আর ভূমি যেখানে মানুষ, পশুপাখি ও গাছপালা বাস করে। সুতরাং, মানুষ, পশুপাখি, গাছপালা, বাতাস, পানি ও মাটি পরিবেশের প্রধান উপাদান। এসব উপাদান সুস্থ জীবনযাপনের জন্য উপযুক্ত হওয়া উচিত। কিন্তু যখন এগুলো দূষিত হয় এবং প্রয়োজনীয় ভারসাম্য বিঘ্নিত হয় তখন এ ঘটনাকে পরিবেশ দূষণ বলা হয়। আজকাল প্রায় সর্বত্র আমাদের পরিবেশ মারাত্মকভাবে দূষিত হচ্ছে। এই ভয়াবহ দূষণের জন্য আমরাই দায়ী। পরিষ্কার বায়ু মানব জীবনের জন্য অত্যাবশ্যকীয় উপাদান। কিন্তু দুষিত বায়ু আমাদের জন্য ক্ষতিকর। শিল্প-কারখানা ধোঁয়া, গ্যাস ও বাষ্প নির্গত করে। মটরযানও অনেক ধোঁয়া ও গ্যাস নির্গত করে। এসব বায়ু মারাত্মকভাবে দূষণ ঘটায়। পানি আমাদের পরিবেশের অপর একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ উপাদান। এটা জীবনের জন্য অত্যাবশ্যকীয়। বায়ুর মতো পানিও বিভিন্নভাবে দূষিত হয়। শিল্পের বর্জ্য পদার্থ নিক্ষেপ থেকে পানি দূষিত হয় এবং রাসায়নিক সার ও কীটনাশক পানি দূষিত করে। নির্বিচারে যানবাহনের ভেঁপু, লাউড স্পিকার, মাইক ইত্যাদির কারণে শব্দ দূষণ হয়। মাটি দূষিত হয় ক্ষতিক্ষারক রাসায়নিক সার ও কীটনাশক ব্যবহারের কারণে। গাছপালা পরিবেশে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে। গাছপালা কার্বন ডাইঅক্সাইড শোষণ করে এবং অক্সিজেন ত্যাগ করে। এভাবে তারা পরিবেশ রক্ষা করে। পরিবেশ দূষণ আমাদের অস্তিত্বের জন্য একটি হুমকি। এটি পৃথিবীর জলবায়ুতে পরিবর্তন ঘটায় এবং নানা ধরনের প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগ বয়ে আনে। পৃথিবী বসবাসের অনুপযোগী হয়ে পড়ছে। জীবনকে সুস্থ ও আরামদায়ক করতে হলে পরিবেশকে পরিচ্ছন্ন ও বিপদমুক্ত রাখতে হবে।
