They can also happen along fault lines, where parts of the earth’s surface meet and move. The results of an earthquake can be very serious—many people may die, buildings may collapse, and roads, bridges, and hospitals may be damaged. Bangladesh is located in an earthquake-prone area, and there are several fault lines in our country. Sadly, many buildings in our cities are not built following the proper safety rules. If a major earthquake strikes, there could be a huge loss of lives and property.

To stay safe in the future, the government should remove weak buildings and make sure all new buildings follow the building code. Fire service and rescue teams must be given modern tools for emergency situations. People also need to be educated about what to do before, during, and after an earthquake. TV, radio, and newspapers should help spread this awareness to keep the public informed and safe.
