Rooted in the heart of a community, folk music reflects the natural style of expression of everyday people. It is performed by individuals who are usually not formally trained musicians, which is why it lacks sophistication but is rich in emotion and authenticity.

In Bangladesh, generations of rural poets and composers have built a vast tradition of folk music. This genre deeply expresses themes of human love, longing, and separation. Folk music is a blend of songs, dances, and tunes inspired by local culture, festivals, natural beauty, and rural and riverine life.

Bangladesh has a rich variety of folk music genres, such as Bhatiyali, Bhawaiya, Baul, Murshidi, and spiritual songs. Legendary figures like Lalan Shah, Siraj Sai, Hason Raja, Abbasuddin, Abdul Alim, Radha Roman, Durbin Shah, and many others played significant roles in preserving and promoting this tradition.
