Washington, D.C. – Once seen as political allies, former President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk are now locked in a very public and costly feud. Trump has stated clearly that he eliminated Musk.
A Falling Out with Billions at Stake
In recent interviews with U.S. media, Trump said he has no interest in speaking with Elon Musk, calling him a “man who has lost his mind.” The rift began after Musk publicly criticized Trump’s flagship budget bill that is now being considered by Congress.
Trump has even suggested he may cancel government contracts and subsidies tied to Musk’s companies, particularly Tesla and SpaceX—moves that have already rattled investors. Tesla’s market value dropped by $150 billion after the fallout, with shares falling as much as 14%.

Social Media Drama and Political Threats
Both the media and the internet have covered the conflict. While some allies tried to smooth things over, Musk only replied with “You’re not wrong” to a post suggesting the two should make peace. Trump, however, is reportedly still angry—accusing Musk of being “crazy” due to alleged drug use.
He told journalists, “I’m not even thinking about Elon. He’s got a problem.”
Billions in Federal Contracts Could Be at Risk
Experts warn that this fight could have real-world financial consequences. Tesla and SpaceX benefit from an estimated $38 billion in federal contracts and subsidies. Analysts say that if Trump follows through on his threats, the losses could be even greater for Musk’s empire.
SpaceX, in particular, is critical to NASA missions. Trump had hinted at shutting down U.S. space operations involving Musk, but later backed off.
What’s Fueling the Feud?
Musk’s criticism of Trump’s massive spending plan is at the core of the conflict. Musk had joined the Trump administration last year as part of the “Department of Government Efficiency” but quit after making little progress—cutting only 1% of spending.
Now, both men are publicly sparring over who’s right for America’s financial future. And while Trump calls the bill “beautiful,” Musk insists it’s dangerous for the U.S. economy.
Is Reconciliation Possible?
Relationship experts believe the clash was inevitable. Both guys are well-known for having strong opinions, talking their minds, and being in charge.
“They’re both alpha personalities with massive egos,” said therapist Lucy Beresford. “This breakup was bound to happen.”
Still, some analysts believe the fight may eventually cool down, especially if financial losses mount. With Tesla already under pressure and Trump seeking reelection, both men might find reason to settle—at least for now.
